YAI was commissioned to provide architectural services for Townsend Hall, Building 61, which was originally constructed in 1891 and listed on the Fort Leavenworth National Historic Register. Design services by YAI included interior renovation, design of a mezzanine area open to the seminar rooms on the 1st floor, a comprehensive interior design and furniture package, and historical preservation and upgrades to the exterior, including the historic porches.
The building was converted to a Battle Seminar Facility for the Battle Command Training Program. This project provides capability to conduct strategic level war gaming and simulations symposia, commander conferences, and to support national, joint, and Army level operational missions and war fighting requirements. In addition to force protection upgrades incorporated in the site work, the building has been retrofitted with blast protection windows and doors.
